Of the 1st School District in Capt Jno Dennis

Know all men by these presents that we Joseph Hill, William Martin, Silas McBee Thomas McMillen and William Sharp. All of the County of Grainger and State of Tennessee.....Trustees of the first School District in Capt John Dennis' Comp. are held and firmly bound unto John T.Curl Chairman of the Common School Commitioners for the County of Grainger and the State aforsaid, in the Penal Sum of Thirty Dollars to be levied on Ouer respectable goods and chattles The Condition of the above Obligations is such that if we the above bounden Joseph Hill, William Martin, Silas McBee, Thos McMillen and William Sharp.

Trustees of the above mentioned district do well and truly aploy all the money that we recieve from the Clark of the common School Comitioners for the County of Grainger to the use of Schooling of the Children from the age of six and under the age of Eighteen and all moneys rec'd by us by donation or other wise to the use of schooling Children that is entitled it by law then the bond is to be void if not it is to remain in full force and virtue of the law where of we have here unto set our hands and seals this 17th day of August 1833

Where as we the undersigned being appointed Common School Trustees for the thirteenth Common School District in said County & lawfully sworn for that purpose have presided to take the number of the children in said District between the age of six & eighteen years and do certify that there is seventy seven between them ages given into us.given under our hands this 1st August 1833.

A report of the proceedings of the Common School Trustees in Dristrict No 26 Grainger Cty Tenn. July 28th 1833

We employed a teacher at the rate of Eight Dollars & fifty cents pr. month he taught three months and received twenty five Dollars & fifty cents There are fifty Seven Scholars in the School seven of which were studying Arithmetic. Seven other were writing, and the balance some reading and some others, Spelling the average price per Schollar is 1525/100 Cents pr month.

The Number of Scholars in the District Is 86 this we believe to be a true eastament to the best of our recollection and belief
